Check family access before purchasing a food app
Separate installing an app from sharing its paid access, then verify the exact family eligibility before buying for more than one person.
Two people can want the same food-scanner app without needing exactly the same purchase. Before choosing a plan for a household, establish whether you want two installations, access to the same paid feature, or a shared in-app workspace. Those are three different requirements. A family group in a phone's settings does not by itself answer all of them.
Write the household requirement first
Imagine two adults, each using a separate iPhone, who want to read labels during their own shopping trips. Their question is whether one specific subscription can provide paid access to both Apple Accounts. It is not answered by showing that the app can be downloaded on both phones. This is a fictional planning example; no Ingredi family subscription has been verified for it.
Record each person's platform and the exact feature they need. Keep account names private. If one person uses Android, add that fact rather than treating the household as a single Apple setup. Do not share passwords to substitute for an unverified family feature.
Check eligibility before troubleshooting settings
Apple's shared-content guidance says subscriptions and in-app purchases from non-participating apps cannot be shared through Family Sharing. It also describes account and purchase-sharing settings to check when eligible content is missing. First establish whether the particular purchase is eligible; changing settings cannot establish participation that has not been confirmed.
Google Play's Family Library guidance excludes in-app purchases from sharing through that library. Its eligibility indication for purchased apps is not a promise that premium access inside a freely downloaded app is shared. A developer's separate family plan, if offered, would need its own explicit terms.
Use an evidence sheet with an honest unknown
| Question | Evidence to seek |
|---|---|
| Which purchase are we discussing? | The exact plan or item name on the current offer |
| Who can use its paid access? | An explicit sharing statement for that purchase |
| Which platform accounts are covered? | The applicable platform or developer terms |
| Does it work for our two devices? | The actual eligibility and compatibility information for each device |
For Ingredi AI, family access remains unverified in this guide. The official Apple listing and official Google listing are the starting points to inspect and download the app. Their existence on both platforms does not establish sharing across those platforms.
Resolve the purchase question precisely
If family access is essential, ask the developer whether the named plan supports two separate accounts on your stated devices, and how the second person receives access. Keep the response with the offer you are considering. A general yes to family use is less useful than a statement tied to the actual plan.
Once eligibility is clear, use the official platform setup instructions for that arrangement. If it stays unknown, decide whether individual access alone meets your needs before subscribing. This prevents a household purchase decision from depending on a feature nobody has confirmed.
