Camera and photo permissions: make two separate choices on Android

Inspect Android camera and photo permissions separately, record the actual request, and change only the access needed for your chosen label task.

Taking a new label photograph and opening an existing one are different tasks. Before responding to an Android permission request, decide which task you are attempting. Granting access to one device feature does not mean you have chosen every other access option an app might present.

Read the requested capability

Google's Android permissions guide distinguishes Camera, used for taking pictures and recording video, from Photos and videos, used for access to stored media. Its current settings route is Settings, Apps, the chosen app, then Permissions. Some documented steps require Android 11 or later on Pixel; labels and available options can differ with Android version and manufacturer.

Open the actual app entry rather than changing a similarly named app. Record which permissions appear under allowed and not allowed. An absent entry is not evidence that Ingredi has requested it. This guide has not observed or tested Ingredi's current permission prompts.

Use one task to guide each change

For a fictional example, you want to photograph a cereal panel now. The app presents a Camera request. Read its explanation and choose the access level you are comfortable with. Android may offer access while using the app or asking each time, depending on the permission and device. Do not select a broader option merely because it is displayed first.

On a different day you may choose an existing label image. Treat any media-access prompt as a new decision. It might concern stored photos rather than the camera, and the app might offer a different input route. Keep the exact request instead of summarising both situations as the app needs everything.

Return to the same task

After changing one setting, retry the same action with an ordinary package photo. If it still fails, keep the error text. Avoid enabling unrelated permissions in a batch because that makes it harder to identify which setting mattered.

You can revisit permissions later, but changing access is not a declaration that earlier data was deleted. Permission controls also do not independently explain server storage or the app's entire privacy policy. Those are separate questions.

To try this check with Ingredi AI, open its official Google Play listing, review the current details and install if it suits your needs. The iPhone listing uses a different platform; these Android settings steps should not be copied into iOS instructions.
