Read the code and farming-origin line beside the EU organic logo

Use a three-field worksheet for the EU organic logo, control-body code and agricultural origin without inventing a product certification.

The EU organic leaf is only one part of the information to capture. The nearby code and farming-origin wording answer different questions. When a small photograph cuts off those lines, a saved image of the leaf alone leaves the record incomplete.

Find the three pieces together

The European Commission's organic-logo guidance explains that the logo is reserved for products certified by an authorised control agency or body. A control-body code and a statement about where the agricultural raw materials were farmed must accompany it. The origin line concerns farming, not simply the address of the business selling the product.

The logo is required on prepacked food produced and sold as organic within the EU. Compliant imported organic products may also use it. Seeing the leaf therefore does not, by itself, establish that every ingredient was grown inside the EU.

Make a worksheet without inventing a code

Consider a fictional bag of dried fruit in an EU shop. The example below is a transcription exercise, not a certified product or a label design for commercial use. A placeholder deliberately replaces the code: copy a real code only from the actual package you are inspecting.

FieldPractice recordQuestion it addresses
LogoEU organic leaf visibleWhich organic scheme is represented?
Control-body code[Copy the complete printed code]Which control body is identified?
Farming originnon-EU AgricultureWhat agricultural-origin wording is given?
Business address[Copy separately if needed]Which business contact is printed?

Suppose the fictional seller's address is in France. Do not replace the non-EU farming-origin entry with France. Those two observations can coexist because the contact address and farming-origin statement are separate fields. Likewise, do not convert a broad origin statement into the name of a particular farm.

Resolve an unreadable line before drawing a conclusion

If a fold hides the last characters of the code, mark the code incomplete. Photograph another angle, check the package itself, or request a clearer product image from the seller. Guessing the missing characters would create a different identifier, and a text-recognition result should be checked against the photograph.

If you later seek confirmation, provide the product name, pack version, exact code and full label image together. A code copied into a note is not evidence that you have independently checked the current certification of that particular product. Neither the logo nor this worksheet supplies its nutrient quantities or a personal dietary recommendation.
